BACKGROUND
Seeking a slower pace and a deeper connection to the land, the owners traded busy corporate careers and city life for a rural property in the Flathead Valley. What was once an open hay field became the setting for a home thoughtfully designed around views, gathering, and a lifestyle centered on the outdoors. During construction, it was not uncommon to see golden eagles soaring overhead, a reminder of the wild landscape that first drew them to the property.
The owners were deeply involved in every aspect of the design process, carefully considering each detail to create a home that reflected their vision and values. Architecturally, the residence takes inspiration from a traditional farmhouse that appears to have evolved over generations. Multiple rooflines, simple forms, and a restrained material palette create a timeless character that feels both authentic and enduring. Inside, expansive windows frame sweeping views of the surrounding fields and valley, while open gathering spaces naturally draw family and guests toward the landscape beyond.
The result is a home that balances simplicity with intentionality, creating an inviting retreat that feels deeply connected to its setting. From evenings spent entertaining to mornings maintaining the property on a newly acquired tractor, the owners have fully embraced their new Montana lifestyle—along with their dog, Bocci, who has found a paradise of his own.
PROJECT NOTES
